Mai Khao

Mai Khao is a long sandy beach stretching several kilometres with groves of trees along the shore on the northwestern side of Phuket, just north of the airport.

Due to it being part of the Sirinat National Park area, the beach is quiet and natural with no sun loungers or motorised water sports. You can walk along this beautiful stretch of beach without seeing anyone else and really feel like you are on your own paradise island. There’s also a wide variety of unusual plants and wildlife to enjoy and look out for.

If you do walk along the beach and happen to see one of the locals buried in the sand with only their head popping out, please don’t be too alarmed. There’s a small section of the beach unique in Phuket where the sand has a special mixture of minerals which is used as a therapy to energise the body, mind and soul and relieve aching bones and joints.

There are a few luxury resorts and developments peppered along this coast line including the Sala resort and Spa, JW Marriott, Anantara hotel and villas and the Renaissance.

If you are looking to get away from it all and enjoy one of Phuket’s least developed areas, then Maikhao is definitely the place for you. With it’s balance of nature and luxury resorts a few days relaxation here will certainly recharge the batteries.
