How’re things with you? Fed-up, tired of having your movements restricted, kids getting impatient, sick of the political landscape, changeable weather etc? Been thinking of making a new start, moving to a new location or just finding and hitting the “reset button”?
Well, if the answer is “yes”, you’re not alone. Many people think about it, but few see it through and there’s nothing wrong with either of those options. But don’t ever forget, they are very real options.
While the world is still in chaos, here on Phuket we are getting back to normal (that’s the “old“ normal, not the “new” one). We are over 55-days COVID -19 free, kids are back to school part-time this week, restaurants, gyms, spas and the cinema’s are now all open.
What about that 2nd wave? Well, that’s a bit like werewolves and ghosts, and they never existed in the first place. It’s just the virus never went away in the first place. But I understand your concern and it’s a genuine worry. To cut the effect of a possible “2nd wave”, Phuket has introduced high level “contact tracing measures” that actually make a lot of sense.
For the past couple of months, when the public enter a 7/11, a department store or restaurant etc, they all have their temperature checked and they check-in online via a displayed QR code linked to a website. It logs your name, telephone number and the time you visited, making contact tracing more quick should the need arise.
Beaches? Yes, they are open. Social distancing? Ah, here’s a touchy subject because you’ve probably been subjected to the “only-2-persons-at–a-table” rule. So what about a family of 3, 4 or more from the same household? Well, the above lasted for about 6 weeks tops. Now everyone can sit at the same table, so no worries there. Other than that it’s pretty much getting back to normal and people are getting their freedom back. But Face masks are still monitory in public. Don’t like it? Would you prefer a THB 40,000 fine? Yes, the face mask thing they take very seriously.
